Ten minutes with Madinah

01What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I would give them to not give up. Do not get discouraged. Find a support system, understand the difference between sponsorship and mentorship, because there's a difference. We need more sponsors, right? It's not easy in this field, and unfortunately, a lot of times, women are not very supportive of me. Women in fields where it's mostly men have to fight so hard to get the recognition, the acknowledgement, the place, that they kind of don't know how to turn that off towards other women. They get a little competitive. But my advice is to stay strong, find your support system, and understand that you need sponsors who will advocate for you, not just mentors.

02What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

I think the biggest challenge is every move in this future of the Generative AI, right? How to ensure that we keep this in a very, very secure framework. We're moving so rapidly and so fast, and so many people don't know Microsoft 365, they really don't know how to utilize all the tools effectively. We have issues around internet security governance. The younger community does everything on their phone, and the problem is that sometimes on the phone, things are not as secure because we're browsing and it's the internet that's not secure. Things are happening so rapidly that people can't keep up, and there's a whole issue around making sure people are trained properly and understand the technology.
