Madison B. Beal

Senior Administration Assistant
San Jacinto College
Pasadena, TX 77505

I am a Senior Administrative Assistant at San Jacinto College, where I provide high-level administrative support within an academic environment and assist with coordination across faculty, staff, and leadership. In this role, I manage complex scheduling, documentation, and communication processes while ensuring accuracy, professionalism, and efficiency in daily operations. Working in higher education has strengthened my organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to navigate fast-paced, detail-driven environments.

In addition to my professional role, I am currently a student at the University of Houston pursuing a double major in Political Science and Psychology. My academic interests center on the intersection of law, human behavior, and public institutions, with a particular focus on how policy and legal systems influence individuals and communities. Through my coursework, I have developed strong analytical, research, and critical thinking skills that complement my professional experience.

I plan to attend law school and pursue a career as an attorney, with long-term interests in advocacy, public service, and ethical decision-making. I am motivated by a desire to contribute meaningfully to my community while continuously developing my professional and academic skill set.

Q

What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to being a role model to my kids. My kids make me want to be successful. I want to show them that anything is possible when you put your mind to it. It doesn't matter where you come from, or what your past is, or how broken your past is. As long as you have determination, discipline, and a whole lot of Jesus, anything is possible.

Q

What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I ever received was from my department chair, Dr. Gwendolyn Berry. She told me, 'We are humans, not robots.' That sat with me in such a deep way. She was implying that none of us is perfect, we're going to make mistakes, but that's okay. We're human, we're going to make mistakes, and it's about how you learn from it, and grow from it, and avoid making that mistake again.

Q

What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

It doesn't matter what your past is. It doesn't matter what you've gone through. As long as you have the determination, discipline, and drive, you can succeed even through failures/rough patches. Your past can be fixed through counseling and therapy. But as long as you have those three things - drive, determination, and discipline - that's what keeps me going. It keeps my eyes on the prize. It's not easy. It's hard. It's very hard, actually. But with good support and finding your people, anything is possible. It's just finding where you need to be. And just accepting change. Don't be resistant. And even when you feel like your world is crashing down, it's not. That's just a temporary feeling, and there's always a brighter day, which eventually leads to a brighter future.

Q

What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

The biggest opportunities in my field right now are pursuing higher education and continuing to push myself to go as high as I want with my education. I work for a college, so they always believe in going as high as you want with your education. Eventually, I plan to be a lawyer and get into a law firm, work there for maybe a couple of years, and then turn around and have my own law firm. After some years, I want to retire and come back to San Jacinto College and be a part-time professor for my retirement, so I can give back to the college that gave me so much.

Q

What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The values most important to me in my work and personal life are being transparent, being yourself, just being honest, admitting when you fail, admitting when you're wrong, and then taking that realness and being transparent by applying it to yourself, and just growing from it, learning from it, and asking yourself how you can be better from it.
