What do you attribute your success to?
My mother who was my first teacher. She lost her battle to breast cancer at the age of 28 and was wise beyond her years. She left me with lots of words of wisdom to live by. Her words of wisdom have carried me thus far. My mother along with my grandmother instilled a strong faith and this is my firm foundation that I carry with me through the mountains and valleys in my life. I strive to live each day to please Him, above all, and I give him with all the credit, for who I am today and the abundant blessings in my life.
What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
Every day is an interview; put your best foot forward and give each day 110%. Always be a person of integrity and speak at all times, as if you were on a loud speaker. Do what you do because it lights a fire under you. Be passionate in all that you do. When the fire fades, then it is time to find what sparks you to want to move mountains.
What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Always start with relationships. Show your authentic self and genuineness to get to know people for who they really are. This earns trust and all that you encounter will always know you are coming from a genuine place of interest. This will set your tone and foundation that you do not see them as dollar sign or just another client, but an actual person. Lastly, all decisions should be made with the end of mind would you want this for your children or any children that you genuinely care about. If it is not good enough for your very own, then it probably isn't in the best interest for the children you are serving.
What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
Be a learner at heart. Do not work in a silo or stay in your lane. I truly believe there are many opportunities that open when you are willing to learn. Be open minded to learning from your peers, colleagues in other departments and be a risk taker. When you are open to learning, growing and taking chances, many opportunities open organically for you and other learn from you as well. This creates synergy and it is a win-win for all.
What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The values most important to me in my work and personal life are creativity, health, and service, which I express through photography, golf, jogging, and volunteering at my church and in the community.
