About Maggie
Maggie Buman serves as Director of the local county museum in Harlan, Iowa. She began her museum career after switching her major at Warburg College from music education to history education. During her studies she worked as a historical interpreter at a living history museum and later completed internships as a programming intern at the Museum of Danish America and as a collections intern at the local county museum. Upon graduating she applied for and secured the director position. In her role she maintains collections and facility climate conditions, writes grants and policies, manages donations and volunteers, and develops community events and programming. Buman is a member of the American Alliance of Museums, Association of Midwest Museums, Iowa Museum Association, and American Association for State and Local History. She also contributes to local community theater through advertising, set design, costumes, and stage management, assists with events such as RAGBRI, and supports the local arts association.
