Her Interview
Ten minutes with Maggie
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to the support of my family, my friends, and my salon owners, Michelle and Chelsea. Their encouragement and support have played an important role in helping me grow both personally and professionally.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I have received is to work smarter, not harder. That mindset has helped me focus on being intentional with my time, effort, and approach to my work rather than simply working harder without considering how I can work more effectively.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
My advice to young women entering the beauty industry is to get out there and do it. Do not allow other people to get in your way or prevent you from pursuing what you want. Take action, trust yourself, and be willing to put yourself out there as you build your career.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
One of the challenges I experienced early in my career was learning on the job and developing the skills needed to succeed in a constantly changing industry. The COVID-19 pandemic also created significant challenges for the beauty industry and changed the way professionals interact with clients and approach their businesses.
Since the pandemic, social media and constantly changing beauty trends have created an additional challenge because professionals need to stay relevant and continue learning as trends evolve. At the same time, these changes create opportunities for networking, professional development, and career advancement. For me, continuing along the Redken educator path provides an opportunity to expand my education and leadership experience while helping other beauty professionals grow.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Leadership is one of the most important values to me. I believe strong leadership involves supporting others, developing people, and helping teams and individuals grow both professionally and personally.
