About Mahek
Mahek Maheshwari serves as a certified pharmacy technician at Walmart, where she handles both front-end cashier duties and back-end tasks such as filling prescriptions and managing insurance claims. She also works as a team lead at Panera Bread, responsible for training associates, assisting with schedules, onboarding new staff, and participating in interviews. Currently a senior at UTD, Mahek is completing her bachelor's degree in biology and plans to pursue medical school after a gap year involving clinical research at UT Southwestern, with the goal of becoming an OBGYN. Her areas of expertise include pharmaceutical knowledge and biology. Mahek has been recognized as a member of the National Honor Society and Fiesta da Capa. She previously volunteered for 50 hours at Baylor Scott and White Hospital as a front desk associate helping patients check in. Mahek attributes her success to her mother and values respect, professionalism, ethics, and adherence to procedures in her work.

01What do you attribute your success to?
My mom has been my motivation for success.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
Just keep working, and then we'll finally find our destination.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Keep going on, medical school can be hard, but if you want to be a part of it, just keep going and one day you'll get it. Medical life has always been stressful. It's never easy, but it's worth it.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
Dealing with patients and insurance, and hours being cut so you need to do at least two people's jobs.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Be respectful towards everybody, being professional, being ethical, and following the procedures at work.
