About Makenzie
Makenzie Mullinax is a campaign manager managing the Frederick County Executive's re-election campaign in Frederick, Maryland. In this role, she oversees all aspects of the county-wide campaign, including field and volunteer organizing, communications, fundraising coordination, scheduling, and managing consultants and the campaign team. She previously worked in government relations and public advocacy at the International Franchise Association in Washington, D.C., where she advocated for small businesses and franchises nationwide. A 2023 graduate of the University of Alabama, she began her career with a congressional internship on Capitol Hill and has accumulated three to four years of experience in politics and government affairs. Her career reflects a commitment to public service, policy, and community engagement, with long-term interest in healthcare policy.

01What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I think I would tell young women not to be afraid to take on opportunities that feel a little outside of their comfort zone. Early in my career I've had opportunities to step into roles where I didn't know anything that was going on and I've learned the most by being willing to figure out things along the way. I'd encourage them to build relationships with people they respect and not be afraid to ask questions or seek out mentors. You don't have to have your entire career mapped out when you're starting out. It's okay to try different things and kind of learn what you enjoy from there and let it shape where you go next.
