About Makenzie
Makenzie Whicker is an Operations Manager at Merit Financial Advisors in Ogden, Utah, bringing six and a half years of experience in the financial services industry. She began her career path in medical billing and coding before transitioning into financial services, earning her Series 7 and Series 63 licenses during what she describes as a challenging chapter of her life. A graduate of Weber State University, she is licensed through both FINRA and the SEC and focuses her expertise on operations, process improvement, and client services.
Throughout her career, Whicker has held escalations and client-relationship roles at firms including Wells Fargo Advisors, Dexian, and Fidelity Investments, consistently working to resolve complex financial matters for high-net-worth clients while maintaining strong regulatory compliance. She has built a reputation for streamlining processes and improving the client experience, skills she now applies in her current role supporting the day-to-day operations at Merit Financial Advisors. Having overcome a personal history involving domestic violence, she found that gaining financial knowledge was both empowering and life-changing, a perspective that continues to shape how she approaches her work.
Outside of her professional responsibilities, Whicker is passionate about philanthropy and hopes to launch her own nonprofit organization in the future. She is a strong advocate for women entering the financial services field, encouraging them to persevere and pursue knowledge for their own growth, reminding them that the skills gained along the way carry over into any path they choose. Guided by integrity, authenticity, and a commitment to meaningful relationships, she continues to build a career rooted in service to others.

01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to my integrity, my authenticity, and the connections I've built along the way. I also credit the supportive people I've surrounded myself with. Coming from a background of domestic violence, learning about finances was empowering for me and became a turning point in my life.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I would tell young women entering this industry to never give up and to do it for themselves. The knowledge you gain is transformative, and the skills you build are transferable to any endeavor you pursue.
03What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
This is a competitive, historically male-dominated industry, but I've seen it become increasingly welcoming to women, and I believe there are booming opportunities ahead.
04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Integrity, authenticity, and building strong connections are most important to me. I also make it a priority to surround myself with supportive people who amplify my growth, both professionally and personally.
