Her Interview

Ten minutes with Malaika

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to my faith, which has kept God at the center of my life through every season. My resilience gives me the strength to continue showing up for myself, even when circumstances do not unfold as planned, trusting that everything will ultimately work out. I am also grateful for a supportive community that intentionally pours into me, encourages my growth, and allows me to build genuine, meaningful relationships. Above all, I remain curious, open-minded, and willing to embrace opportunities that challenge me, expand my perspective, and push me beyond my comfort zone.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I’ve ever received is to trust the process and understand that there are no shortcuts. I first learned this lesson during my undergraduate years through my business fraternity, but it took navigating different seasons, pivots, and setbacks to truly understand its meaning. I’ve learned that everything has a way of working itself out in the right time, even when the path is not always clear. I also believe there are no limits to what is possible when you approach your career with determination, creativity, and a willingness to make opportunities work for you.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

My advice to young women entering my industry is to never be afraid to bet on yourself and be vocal about what you want to achieve. Step outside of your comfort zone, remain curious, and be willing to learn by asking questions and being a sponge for knowledge. Put yourself in rooms where you may not feel completely comfortable yet, because those experiences often create the greatest opportunities for growth. Remember that there are no shortcuts to becoming the person and professional you aspire to be, and your career does not have to follow a traditional or linear path. Trust yourself, embrace the journey, and most importantly, go for it.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

The biggest opportunity in marketing is understanding your own lane and identifying the areas of the industry that genuinely excite you. Once you have clarity around the type of experience you want to build, it becomes easier to navigate opportunities, make intentional decisions, and stay motivated in a fast-moving field. For women especially, I believe it is important to remain authentic, continue innovating, and embrace new technologies such as AI to work more efficiently and accelerate ideas, while recognizing that technology cannot replace the value of human connection. The industry will continue to evolve, so staying curious, adaptable, and true to yourself will be essential to building a meaningful and lasting career.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The values that are most important to me, both personally and professionally, are vulnerability, authenticity, service, growth, and faith. I believe in showing up as my true self and creating an environment where others feel seen, valued, and supported. Having a posture of service allows me to build meaningful relationships and positively impact those around me. I also place a strong emphasis on continuous growth, always remaining curious, open to learning, and willing to evolve. Above all, my faith guides my decisions, shapes how I navigate life, and keeps me grounded in what matters most.
