About Malayah
Malayah Montgomery is a UX designer whose career path reflects a commitment to blending design, technology, and service to others. She began her academic journey as an engineering technology student at Middlesex Community College before majoring in architecture with a sociology minor, drawn to the intersection of design and technology as well as advocacy and social issues. After graduating, Montgomery pivoted to UX design and research to leverage technology in understanding people's motivations and serving diverse audiences. In her most notable professional achievement, she worked at the Department of State designing programs for offices worldwide, tailoring information communication to different countries and cultures. She attributes her success to determination and a strong community, remaining self-motivated while valuing support and guidance. Montgomery follows the career advice to never stop seeking opportunities for growth and to maintain a learning mentality, a principle reinforced by her mentors.

01What do you attribute your success to?
Determination and community. I'm very self-motivated, but I also think that having a very strong community and involvement with these types of areas is very important to ground yourself, and also to have support and guidance.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
To never stop looking for opportunities to grow and advance, no matter how tied you feel somewhere or anchored you feel in some place. You always want to continue to put your best foot forward and look for opportunities to grow. Having that learning mentality and spirit of improvement is something that really stuck with me from some of my mentors.
