Her Story

About Malorie

I have been in sales and marketing for over 8 years, working my way through various roles from SEO and digital marketing to door-to-door pest control sales, and eventually representing companies selling million-dollar deals into Walmart in Bentonville, Arkansas. At the end of 2023, I realized I wanted to do more meaningful work helping people on the fringe of society, so I quit my job, sold my house, and moved in with family to pursue my dream. I started interviewing nonprofits and discovered a recurring problem - their technology was outdated, hard to use, and expensive. That's when I decided to build software to help nonprofits be more efficient and get the younger generation to volunteer more. I'm currently getting my MBA at the University of Virginia at Darden on a full-ride entrepreneurship scholarship, which has helped me expand my networks to the East Coast and build connections with nonprofits in the Washington, D.C. area. I've been in Charlottesville for coming up on a year now, and the university has been incredibly invested in my success.

01What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

One of the most important things to me is that the people I work with feel fulfilled, that they are doing work they can be proud of, and they have a sense of belonging and meaning - that they know they matter. We spend most of our time at our job, and that can really affect personal lives and families, so that's a big value for me. Another value I have is living with integrity and being able to provide value in a way that is honest. Working with nonprofits, it's been an interesting journey because you do have to make money, but that money they run off of is through donations, so I think about how we can be true to helping them expand their mission at a cost that is efficient and effective, that isn't going to drain the funds that they need to help the people that they serve.
