Her Interview
Ten minutes with Malorie
01What do you attribute your success to?
Being raised in a strong Christian home and having faith that there's something greater guiding me, giving me knowledge and discernment. I've always had the faith that if I just continue to keep going I can be in a place where I'm never alone and I can do anything I set my mind out to do.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
Take the chance. You never know what you can do and what you can be if you don't take the chance and do it. It's not gonna be perfect, you're not gonna get it right the first time. Surround yourself with people that encourage you and want to see the best in you, and to keep your light bright and not dim your light.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Be patient with yourself. You're not going to know everything in the beginning. Surround yourself with those who don't mind pouring into you. There are a lot of people in the industry that will gatekeep. Meet those people who don't mind pouring into you when they see something in you, absorb it, and enjoy those opportunities.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
Challenges: Many planning events are not trained event planners and there's high turnover due to companies not realizing event planning is a real industry requiring specific skills. Opportunities: The industry is expanding with more organizations and opportunities; many people don't realize their skills transfer to event planning.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
In work: Respect and honesty, because you're dealing with people's most special days. Treating people like they're human and gaining trust. In personal life: Happiness and peace, with a work-life blend rather than balance for healthier mental health.
