Her Story

About Mamie

My career path really started with my love of learning, reading, and journaling ever since I was a little girl growing up in a military family. My mother served, and so my love of language and connection really started then, because we were traveling and I was having to start over every three years. In becoming an educator, I really had to ensure that when students stepped in my class, they felt seen, heard, and valued. I focused on helping them take the next step, helping them build knowledge and skills that could help them be successful, no matter what their pathway was. Then I became a military spouse, and now I'm continuing to start over. I knew the importance of building community because it builds resiliency when you're having to start over. We have 4 sons, 3 of them are now young men. I used all of that experience, professional and personal, to then create my own business in helping women be able to thrive, no matter what season they're in, through stationery that's focused on helping women build their own skills. They're telling their own story, learning how to prioritize self-care and well-being and their mental health, but in a way that is doable, because sometimes journaling can seem really big if you're not somebody who loves it. My business is for the woman who is ready to prioritize herself, wants to thrive where she is, and wants to honor who she was, love who she is, and make space for who she's becoming.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Mamie

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to my faith. I definitely believe that my faith has helped me to stay rooted and also helped me with knowing that I could be resilient. And then my family is, like, my spouse, my kids, my circle have been, they love who I am, not what I do. And so knowing that there is safe space for me as a person without any accolades, what I can build, do, all that, has really helped. That part has really helped me keep going.

02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I would say to her, that it's okay to pivot. And that there are many pathways to fulfilling your purpose. And so, if the pathway starts to look different, embrace it. Lean in, build community, get a mentor, and embrace that pivot.

03What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

Access. Access to funding, having access to resources, and continuing to grow and scale my business. I think that's been kind of like that big hurdle of when you're trying to transition in that space, and you're kind of in between.

04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

What's most valuable are spaces where we are ensuring that there's access. That there is collaboration. My other values would be service, I definitely value service, education, and leadership. And I think with leadership, it's more of not just leader from a title, but recognizing that we have a responsibility to steward who we are, what we have, where we are. So, with my kids, I'm changing diapers, like, I'm stewarding that well. And then I have influence on what my home looks like, influencing what it looks like in my community. So, I'm leading, whether I have a title or not.
