Mandi Mikes, MBA, PMP
Mandi Mikes, MBA, PMP, is a seasoned contracts and program execution professional in the defense industry, currently serving as Manager of Contracts for the Directed Energy Business Unit at AV. With extensive experience navigating complex contractual landscapes, she specializes in contract management, proposal development, cross-functional collaboration, and ensuring compliance while delivering strategic outcomes. Known for her analytical mindset, negotiation skills, and ability to build strong partnerships, Mandi plays a pivotal role in supporting mission-critical programs and advancing organizational objectives.
Beginning her career as a contract administrator intern with a major defense contractor, Mandi quickly progressed through the Contract Leadership Development Program, gaining hands-on experience in cost reimbursement, firm-fixed price, and time-and-materials contracts. She later joined BlueHalo (now part of AV), where she contributed to the CUAS Directed Energy and Tracking Systems divisions, supporting contracts, program management, pricing, and subcontracts. Her commitment to excellence and rapid adaptability has allowed her to lead complex projects while fostering strong relationships with customers, teammates, and stakeholders.
Mandi is a dedicated advocate for professional development and mentorship, drawing inspiration from mentors such as Meredith Bussey and the unwavering support of her family. She actively supports philanthropic initiatives, including Tunnel to Towers and Home for Our Troops, reflecting her commitment to giving back to the community. Outside of work, she enjoys football, fantasy football, pickleball, snowboarding, traveling, and spending quality time with friends and family. I attribute my success to strong mentorship, the support of my family, and a willingness to continuously learn and adapt. Key figures, like Meredith Bussey and my parents, provided guidance, motivation, and the tools needed to thrive in complex environments.
What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
Mandi will be jumping in to add more detail in regard to her career path and what has motivated and inspired her along her journey, she will add details regarding her interests and hobbies outside of work, her passions and what she foresees in her future as her career evolves, and more detail pertaining to the people who have inspired her and supported her longer journey including her wonderful parents.
What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Acknowledge existing unconscious biases and develop pragmatic strategies to navigate within current systems while continuing to advocate for change. Strive to be your best self every day, stay humble, build connections, challenge yourself, and expand your knowledge to reach your goals.
