Ten minutes with Mandy

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to my family. I grew up in a very rough situation, so both of my parents are incarcerated. I didn't have a good start to life, but I knew that I wanted to have a good finish. And so, because my family dynamic was not ideal, I knew that I wanted something different, and that ignited something in me, and it attributed, I believe, to ultimately the success that I have today.

02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I would say to her that your 20s is an opportunity for you to try everything. And it's okay to fail in your 20s, because you really probably won't figure it out until your 30s anyways.

03What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

I think the biggest challenges and opportunities is that there is a lot of people following trends and not enough people being innovative. A lot of people just be afraid to allow those that are talented and skilled in being innovative to just let them be innovative. I notice that in my field, there are a lot of people that want change and want to invoke change, but they don't want to, kind of hand over that process to the change makers. And so, I strongly believe that if we empower those that have the skill set, the tools, and the passions to make change, then we empower them to be the change makers.

04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The value that's most important to me is honor. That is at the top of my list of everything. Honoring the people around me, the work, the commitments that I make. And then also being joyful. I think that there's not enough joy in the world, and I believe that if we lean more on the things that bring us joy, then I believe that we can find ourselves not only personally, thriving, but also professionally thriving.
