Her Interview
Ten minutes with Manuela
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to my very supportive husband, my amazing four children and the Mentors in the industry that made time for me. Along with always learning and refusing to get comfortable. Nothing grows in comfort zones, and I keep this principle at the forefront of my career. I make a conscious effort to attend networking events, participate in committees like GPHA and the Philadelphia Rooms Council, and put myself out there even when it feels intimidating. I stay optimistic through challenges because I view obstacles as opportunities to grow, and I firmly believe that persistence and resilience are essential to reaching your goals.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
Focus on you and your growth because just like flowers in a garden, flowers don’t compete they blossom regardless when in the right environment!
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
My advice is to be clear about your goals, even if you’re not 100% sure what the outcome will be, and take the first step toward them. Surround yourself with people who are actively doing the work, choose friends wisely, focus on yourself, and make decisions today that your future self will thank you for tomorrow. Don’t be afraid to put yourself out there, take initiative, and pursue opportunities. I often share this guidance with my children, with graduates & platforms where I can share.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
A significant challenge for me has been simply juggling my family and career. While both are very rewarding, I pressure myself in ensuring both are well taken care of while not forgetting to care for myself. However, there are substantial opportunities in learning from experience, gaining exposure across departments, networking, and leveraging visibility platforms to open new doors. Not quitting has been the best decision I’ve made.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Spending quality time with my family. Continuing my education in creative ways! Being authentic and having gratitude, resilience, and fostering meaningful connections with my family and my team are the values I prioritize most. I believe in leading with empathy, respect, honesty, fun and compassion. Motivating my staff through recognition and appreciation, while creating a positive, safe and supportive environment for both guests and colleagues.
