Marcela Andrade serves as Technical Production Manager at CNN in Atlanta, Georgia. With more than 30 years in the news media industry, she started her career in Colombia as a Social Communicator and Journalist. In Orlando she joined Univision as a TV producer, then moved to CNN where she progressed from assistant producer to producer, senior producer, and executive producer roles at CNN en Espanol. She now focuses on the technical side of production management. Andrade attributes her success to her family roots, including a loving mother and hardworking father, and to her approach of taking one step at a time while maintaining a willingness to learn and try new opportunities. She advises young women entering the industry to overcome fear and imposter syndrome, communicate effectively, and embrace their identity as women rather than trying to emulate men. 01What do you attribute your success to?
My family roots with a loving mom and hardworking dad motivated me to make them proud. I take every step at a time and deal with what I have right now without worrying about the future. I have a willingness to learn more things every day and to try new opportunities even if they seem too big.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Be willing to try even if you feel you are not good enough. Do not let fear or imposter syndrome stop you. Communicate well with people because it is not what you say but how you say it. Be yourself as a woman and do not try to be like a man.
