Marcella K Norman
I am the eldest daughter and the first in my family to attend college and earn an advanced degree. I am a mother, sister, and friend, and the author of two children’s books that center around mental health and emotional well-being. For more than a decade, I have committed my work to community behavioral health, with a deep focus on supporting and advocating for BIPOC communities. At the heart of everything I do are the relationships I build and the people I serve.

What do you attribute your success to?
Faith grounds me, family supports me, and the lessons learned through life experiences have instilled a personal drive that continues to shape my success.
What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
You are more than your clients, your outcomes, or your productivity. Protect your joy. This work needs you whole.
You don’t have to suffer to be good at this work. Caring deeply doesn’t mean absorbing everyone’s pain. Learn early how to be compassionate without self-erasure.
What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
Access is still wildly uneven.
Who you are and where you live still matters way too much. If you’re low-income, rural, uninsured, undocumented, or from a marginalized community, getting care can feel nearly impossible. Stigma hasn’t disappeared either — it’s quieter than before, but still very real.
What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Influence, to me, isn’t about being the loudest voice in the room. It’s about listening, showing up, and making space for others to grow.
I’m constantly learning from the women and communities around me—their resilience, generosity, and willingness to lift each other up. Any impact I have is rooted in shared effort, honest conversations, and the belief that we move further when we move together.
Grateful to be part of a community that values collaboration over competition, and kindness over credit. There’s so much power in supporting one another, and I’m thankful to walk this path alongside people who remind me of that every day.
