Her Story

About Marcia

I've been working in health and well-being for about 30 years overall, and actively for the past decade. I've also been in consulting for about 2 years. My journey started about 3 decades ago when I took a bunch of health courses because I was going to get my master's degree in health education. I saw the disparity of how minorities were being treated in the health industry and a lack of services. I went on to do other things, but then I started back again because I had two brothers that passed away from chronic illnesses. That's when I decided I want to get back in the field and spread awareness and help my community and just help my audience in general. I started my podcast called Cut the BS, Your Health Report back in 2022 because of that, and I've had different guests on talking about health and well-being. Everyone calls me Auntie, and I'm passionate about helping young people understand the importance of taking care of themselves, knowing their body, and knowing their numbers.

Ten minutes with Marcia

01What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I ever received was to be the best you can be and always learn. Never stop learning. In fact, I call it ABL - Always Be Learning. You know, never, ever stop learning, no matter how old you are.

02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

You know what, everybody calls me Auntie, and I tell them: Always be learning, get your exams, take care of yourself, and know your body, and know your numbers. Because young people are so invincible, they think nothing's gonna happen to them, and it's been happening more often than I like to see. So take care of your body, get checked, know your numbers, exercise, and practice healthier eating. Cut down on the alcohol.
