Her Story

About Margie

Margie Hittinger is currently a student at Texas A&M University, where she is pursuing a bachelor's degree in biomechanics with an expected graduation in December 2027. She developed an interest in the field during high school through her love of math and science combined with participation in five sports, leading her to biomedical engineering as a way to help people. After shadowing a prosthetist and completing an internship at a biopharmaceutical and tissue diagnostic company, she decided to focus on the engineering and research side rather than direct patient work. Hittinger aims to contribute to the design of orthotics, prosthetics, or implants, driven by the potential to advance materials and understanding of the body. She currently serves as president of a national engineering fraternity after two semesters on the eBoard. Hittinger attributes her success to the hardworking and generous example set by her grandparents and parents. She values forming personal connections while working with others and received advice from a summer boss to continue her strong work ethic.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Margie

01What do you attribute your success to?

I think that I have watched all the like before my grandparents died I watched like their stories and everything like that. They were insanely hardworking and my parents both are insanely hardworking and generous people and so I think it was just the way I was raised.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best advice came from my boss over the summer. He told me that basically I was the hardest working intern they've ever had and he told me to keep on doing that. He said continue to work hard you don't necessarily like you make it look easy but like you can tell you're putting in the effort.

03What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

I love working with people. I like to actually get to know them as I do so. So it's a lot of fun to me to actually like form connections with others instead of just like passing like emails and stuff like that.
