Her Interview

Ten minutes with Mari

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to hard work, teamwork, perseverance, a continuous willingness to learn, and the discipline of setting clear, achievable goals. I also recognize the important role that opportunity and good fortune have played throughout my journey. Above all, I believe that no leader succeeds alone, and I credit the exceptional teams I have had the privilege to build and work alongside as a fundamental part of my long-term success and leadership impact.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I have ever received is to set clear goals, continue learning, remain loyal to your purpose, and never allow setbacks or failures to define my future. I have carried this guidance throughout my career, as it reinforces the importance of direction, discipline, and lifelong growth. It has also taught me that challenges are not obstacles but opportunities to grow stronger, build resilience, and refine both leadership and decision-making over time.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

My advice to young women entering this industry is to pursue the education and training required for your chosen field and remain committed to continuous professional development. I have learned that success often extends beyond a traditional 9-to-5 schedule and requires dedication, flexibility, and consistency. I also encourage seeking out mentors who can provide guidance and support, while staying open to learning from every experience along the way. Challenges and setbacks are an inevitable part of professional growth and should be viewed as opportunities to learn, adapt, and strengthen your capabilities. Throughout my journey, persistence and resilience have been essential, and I have found that staying focused on long-term goals helps navigate short-term difficulties. With discipline, determination, and confidence in your abilities, you can create meaningful opportunities and build a successful and lasting career.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

The pharmaceutical and chemical industries continue to evolve rapidly, creating significant opportunities for innovation, global expansion, and increased leadership diversity. At the same time, one of the ongoing challenges is improving representation of women and other underrepresented groups in senior leadership roles while ensuring the industry continues to attract, develop, and retain emerging talent. I believe organizations are strongest when experienced leaders actively share their knowledge, invest in mentorship, and create clear pathways for the next generation of professionals, as this fosters inclusive leadership and supports sustainable growth, innovation, and long-term success.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The values most important to me in both my professional and personal life are integrity, teamwork, loyalty, perseverance, mentorship, knowledge sharing, family, and continuous learning. I believe integrity is the foundation of trust and effective leadership, while teamwork and collaboration are essential to achieving meaningful success. I also value loyalty and perseverance, as they provide the commitment needed to overcome challenges and stay focused on long-term goals. Equally important is my belief in mentorship and the responsibility to develop others rather than guard opportunities, as I believe employees should be treated like family and supported in their growth. Continuous learning remains central to my values, ensuring ongoing development, adaptability, and excellence in all that I do.
