About Maria
Maria Clark serves as a voice professor at Emory University in Atlanta, Oxford, and Covington, Georgia. She has maintained a professional singing career as a soprano focused on classical and operatic repertoire since graduating college in 1998. In addition to her university role, Clark operates Clark Music Studio, providing private instruction in piano and voice from her home and a rented church space in Atlanta, where she prepares students for college auditions and professional performances while also working with adult recording artists and church choir members. Her education includes a full scholarship start at Florida State University followed by graduation from the Manhattan School of Music Conservatory. Notable achievements include winning $10,000 in the American Traditions competition in Savannah, Georgia, performing the role of Strawberry Woman in the Atlanta Opera's production of Porgy and Bess during its European tour, and participating in the Atlanta Opera's 96-Hour Project. Clark is a strong advocate for African American composers, having premiered works by composers such as Charles Ingram and performed in productions of operas by William Grant Still. She is also a member of the ensemble Beautiful Voices 3 alongside Indra Thomas and Maria McDaniel.
