Her Story
About Maria
Throughout my life, I have worn many hats, as all mothers do. I am a friend, a daughter, a wife, and a mom to two young boys. In my professional life, I am a mental health clinician to many and a mentor to some. But at my core, I am an entrepreneur who becomes ignited by the process of working with others to build something transformative. My work is rooted in the belief that true healing requires a synergy of disciplines. As the CEO of Reimagined Mind, I lead a practice where Eastern holistic philosophy meets Western clinical rigor, ensuring that trauma-informed, collaborative care is the standard, particularly in the perinatal space. As Vice President of the PRC and President of the Spark Fund, I advocate for the systemic shifts needed for better health outcomes, while our Reimagined Mind non-profit ensures that financial barriers never dictate the quality of care a mother receives.
I've been immersed in the field of mental health for nearly a decade. Both companies I am involved with allow me to serve the perinatal community in different ways. Reimagined Mind Counseling & Consultation is my group practice. It's a virtual mental health and wellness practice with a special focus on teens and moms. The lens we see wellness through is holistic in nature and we utilize a trauma-informed approach. We have a nutritionist for those interested in nutrition health, yoga practitioners, Reiki practitioners for energy work, and highly trained clinical professionals working within various modalities for healing trauma and helping their clients work towards achieving the highest level of mental health. My signature program is the MAMA Method, which stands for Mother's Advocating for Mindfulness and Alignment. This is one of the most comprehensive wellness programs for women on their perinatal journey. It helps pregnant and postpartum women create their professional village by exposing them to numerous supports that exist for this time in their life. It increases their education and awareness on their wellness throughout their perinatal journey, which supports healthier mother/baby outcomes. I also cofounded the Perinatal Resource Collaborative.
In my nonprofit work, I focus on two missions. The first is a fund that can support low-cost psychotherapy for women who are in their perinatal period but can't afford specialized therapy. The second project is creating a certification standard for perinatal professionals to engage in the collaborative care model. My work is well-rounded and affords me a 360 view of the perinatal space where I work to increase wellness for the women and families going through their perinatal journey while supporting the growth and development of the professionals who work in this space.

01What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
A challenge in my field is that as practitioners and clinicians, we go to school a lot to become a clinician, but during that schooling, they don't teach you how to run a business. So if that's something that you want to do, you have to go and educate yourself entirely. There's a lot of trial by fire that comes with being a business owner, and you kind of learn from your mistakes a lot. I don't see that as a problem though - I see that as a way for me to be able to learn more and then spread that information to other people who are in my position, maybe they're just starting out, and I could mentor them to create their own practice. Maybe they don't have to hit the roadblocks that I hit because I've already stepped into the pit and come out of it, so I understand how to move through that. On a personal level, I would say a challenge is being a woman entrepreneur and having children. I'm postpartum currently, and I have a two-and-a-half-year-old and a five-month-old. That balance of striking my love for working and my business is challenging because you're constantly being pulled - your mom heartstrings want to be with your children, and if you're an entrepreneur, your entrepreneur heart wants to make sure that that business still is thriving and succeeding. That balance is a hard one to strike.
