In addition to writing, Ortiz conducts Reiki sessions and is passionate about sharing knowledge and experiences that encourage personal growth and well-being. She graduated from the National Speakers Association Speakers Academy in 2022 after attending NSA events since 2017, further strengthening her skills as a professional speaker and communicator. Ortiz earned her GED from the College of Southern Nevada in 2005 and has demonstrated her commitment to leadership and professional development through her involvement with Toastmasters, where she previously served as an Area Director and Division Director. Her Interview

Ten minutes with Maria

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to the challenges I have faced throughout my life and, most importantly, to my children. Their future has always been a driving force behind my determination to grow, persevere, and pursue new opportunities. I have remained committed to overcoming obstacles, learning from my experiences, and building a successful life that provides my children with a strong foundation and a bright future.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I have ever received is, “You Are More Than Enough.” From my Coach Judi Moreo. This reminder has taught me to trust my abilities, recognize my strengths, and have confidence in the value I bring to every opportunity. It has encouraged me to embrace challenges, step outside my comfort zone, and never underestimate my potential for growth and success.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

My advice to young women entering the industry is to join an organization that will provide opportunities to learn, grow, and develop your skills. Do not allow other people’s opinions or perceptions to define your confidence or potential. Most importantly, be open to accepting guidance and allowing others to support you along the way. Learning from experienced professionals and building meaningful relationships can make a significant difference in your career and personal growth.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

One of the biggest challenges in my field is the perception that women are given fewer opportunities to advance and succeed. I believe this challenge also presents an opportunity to advocate for greater equality, challenge outdated assumptions, and create environments where women are recognized and valued for their skills, leadership, and contributions.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Honesty is the most important value to me, both professionally and personally. I believe in being transparent, authentic, and trustworthy in my interactions with others. Maintaining honesty builds strong relationships, establishes credibility, and creates a foundation of respect and integrity in every aspect of life.
