Her Story
About Maria
My career has taken me through several industries, and each one has taught me something valuable. I worked in banking as a branch manager, which was very challenging because I had to manage people in the branch, deal with clients, market to come up with sales performance, and deal with management. Before my current role, I spent 3 years at Frugal Logistics as a logistics coordinator, where I handled accounts and did transportation follow-up with drivers, monitoring on-time pickup and delivery. Then I was looking around in my place here in Los Banos and told my husband I needed a job that gives me good benefits, a retirement job. When I saw this big, huge manufacturing company, I thought, oh my god, I never thought we have this in this place since Los Banos is a countryside. I told myself I want to work in that company, and I didn't mind that I had no experience because I know myself that I can always learn. If you're eager to learn and your mind is really open to new learnings, it's not impossible. After 3 months, my boss told me I was doing great, and the team was very supportive in giving me inputs that I could learn and apply. Now I'm doing the job 100%. I do the analysis and planning for all orders that come in from worldwide, I plan the production schedule, and I create labels for the products we ship. It's analytical and logical work on the computer that I love doing. They don't bother me, they just let me work on my computer all day. I coordinate with customer service and have management meetings every Tuesday and Thursday where I present my PowerPoint, and if they're satisfied with my scheduling, production proceeds. I also reach out to different departments to contribute process flow improvements. This is my retirement job, and I told the owner that.

01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to perseverance and staying grounded. Focus and agility towards anything are also important to me. For me, it's really about perseverance and being grounded. I've had tough times in my life and reached rock bottom where I lost everything, even my family. But as long as you have those two things, perseverance and staying grounded, you'll be able to get back again on the road. I don't care if I have to start all over again. I rose from rock bottom, and I'm here right now doing well. I'm just applying what I've learned in life and what I've learned in my previous work in different industries, and I believe I have the basic tools to learn whatever industry I have right now.
02What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Staying grounded and being humble are very important to me. I don't put any position on my mind, I stay grounded. I'm a working bee, I just love to work, and if they recognize what achievement I have, that's fine, I'm happy. As long as I'm working, I love to work. My workplace is a happy place that gives me challenges and pushes me forward. It's not because I'm aiming to climb the corporate ladder, but because it's gauging myself. I love challenging my own self, giving challenges to see if I can do this. I always tell my children to push forward, be humble, stay grounded, and be vigilant. Even if you are nice with other people, you don't know that person right in front of you. Always trust yourself and your family, because your family will never think of wrong for you. But it's not that I don't want you to trust some people, but be vigilant. As long as you're grounded and kind, mommy's happy. I have peace of mind that I raise good children.
