Her Story

About Maria Sol

Maria Sol Rios Costa brings three decades of expertise to the beauty industry as a freelance makeup artist and brand representative. She established the first professional makeup school in Peru approximately 19 years ago, running it as the leading institution in Lima for 13 years until the COVID-19 pandemic forced its closure. Upon moving to the United States five years ago, she began her work in the American market at Lash Cosmetics before transitioning to freelance roles where she oversees events, sales, and brand promotion for three distinct lines. Her educational journey includes three years of studies in communications and advertisement, dual professional makeup programs in Argentina covering special effects, characters, bridals, and fashion, a year-long business program with the 10,000 Women of Goldman Sachs, an online master of makeup with an English company, and multiple advanced trainings across Los Angeles, Pasadena, New York, and specifically at Makeup Forever in New York. She previously hosted a national television show in Lima and credits mentors such as Danny Sands of Makeup Forever and Emmy-winning artist Eve Pearl for their influence on her career.

01What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Go for it if it's really your passion. If you really love to be in contact with colors, with people, changing lives. Makeup is very intimate. You are always a coach for the woman. Learn how to make contact with them and help them through makeup, make them connect with themselves. If you want to live off your passion and passion for you is doing makeup and being in contact with people, don't think about it. Nobody believed in me when I was going to do makeup. Everything that you do with love and passion, there's no failure at all.
