Her Story
About Maria
I've been in the mortgage industry since 2004, starting as a loan officer before quickly moving into management roles including VP of sales and VP of operations. After personal tragedy three years ago, I'm rebuilding and back full force as a mortgage banker with Federal Savings Bank since June, helping clients navigate financing options while drawing on lived experiences of resilience and compassion.
Her Interview
Ten minutes with Maria
01What do you attribute your success to?
A lot of it comes down to resilience, relationships, and commitment to growth. I've been fortunate to learn from incredible mentors, colleagues, family and friends. I have never stopped learning, growth happens when we remain curious, embrace change, and continue investing in ourselves.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
Challenges and setbacks are part of everyone's journey but don't determine our future. Be willing to pivot, look inward, and do the work. Honor who you are and what's important to you, especially when things at home can spill over into professional life.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Trust yourself and your intuition. Never underestimate your resilience. Remain positive during setbacks, take risks, ask for help, continue learning, surround yourself with supportive people, and don't be afraid to reinvent yourself. Growth never happens in comfort.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
The biggest challenge is affordability due to rising home prices, interest rate fluctuations, and limited housing inventory, making homeownership out of reach especially for first-time buyers. Also navigating constant market and regulatory changes. The opportunity is in education, relationship building, and leveraging technology and social media to connect with and educate clients as trusted advisors.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Integrity, compassion, resilience, and authenticity. Treating people with kindness and respect, leading with integrity and compassion, being authentic, doing the right thing, leading with empathy, building meaningful relationships, and growing through challenges. Being honest about hard times connects us more deeply.
