About Maria
I'm currently a sophomore in college, and I recently started working for Sewell Recruiting, Coaching, and Consulting about 2 months ago. My friend, who is a classmate, recommended me to his parents who are the founders and CEO and vice president of the company. After working closely with him on school assignments and some personal long-term projects, he thought I would be a good fit. I interviewed with the vice president and CEO about 3 months ago and landed the job the week later. In my role, I commit between 5 and 10 hours a week while balancing my schoolwork. I go onto our sourcing platforms, review people's resumes, see if they're a good match for our clients, and then reach out to them. Once I make positive contact, I set up video call interviews that last about 45 minutes. If they're a good fit, I do a thorough write-up that highlights their story and work background, get references, and send them to one of my bosses for a secondary interview. If that goes well, I send the candidate to the client with a cover letter, their resume, and my feedback. Even though I'm new, I've had an impressive streak - my first candidate is about to get placed, which doesn't generally happen within the first month, and I'm also potentially bringing in a client, which also doesn't happen as an employee of only 2 months. Before this, I worked as a legal assistant to my dad at a law firm and as a daycare assistant where I was basically in charge of all the paperwork.

01What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
I think it's kind of just being diligent and being patient with yourself and the situations around you. There are going to be times when it's super difficult, and you kind of just want to quit, but when you stop, you don't know how far you could have gone and what you could break past that barrier and that mentality. There's just so much potential out there, and you're not going to realize it unless you are able to have enough self-discipline to motivate yourself beyond.
