About Mariah
Mariah Bland is the Assistant Manager of a condominium in Sarasota, Florida. With over 13 years in hospitality and three years in condominium management, she recently obtained her CAM license, enabling her to oversee community associations including condominiums, HOAs, and townhomes. Prior to her current position, Bland worked in hotels in public relations and as a front desk agent, and served as a trainer at a trucking company where she trained individuals who trained drivers. She holds a bachelor's degree in travel, service, and hospitality management from Johnson & Wales University in Miami. Bland is a member of CAI West Coast and CAM University. In her daily work, she manages rental units, conducts background checks for new owners and renters, handles day-to-day owner issues, and collaborates closely with the property manager. She views her role as an extension of hospitality through ongoing interactions with residents. Bland attributes her success to her daughter, whom she supports as a single parent, and she values family, including coworkers and friends, above all. She advises young women entering the industry to not take rejection harshly, to learn from disappointment, and to never give up, while emphasizing that discomfort often signals growth and the need to continue learning.
Her Interview
Ten minutes with Mariah
01What do you attribute your success to?
My daughter is my why. She is the reason why I get up every morning. I grew up in a two-parent household, and unfortunately, she doesn't have that now, but I never want her to feel that. I want her to be able to become whatever she wants in life and I'll be able to pay for that for her.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
If it's uncomfortable, then you're in the right area and you're in the right location or where you need to be. That means that you're learning something new and getting outside of your own comfort zone. Never stop learning.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Don't take no harshly. We need to hear no to build up our character, because when you only hear yes, you don't know how to set yourself up for disappointment. Positively move through disappointment and never give up.
04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Valuing myself and family. Family can be your friends, it can be your coworkers. Family is valuable.
