Her Interview

Ten minutes with Mariam

01What do you attribute your success to?

I would say there's two things. The first one has definitely my family's support, like, my family has always pushed me to pursue my dreams and have only supported me and never been any kind of friction. Just having your family that supports you in all your choices. And the second one would, I think, be my curiosity to just continue pushing my boundaries, trying new things. And paired with self-discipline to actually take an action and doing those steps to get there.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

I think my best career advice has been to make sure that I never stop being curious, like if I start feeling complacent I have to keep myself in check that I'm actually learning something new with what I'm doing, and I'm making an impact, so if things seem complacent, I should ask questions and do more newer things instead of sticking with the status quo.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I would say, currently, because AI is upgrading so fast everything is changing, it's better to get on with it, so familiarize yourself with all the AI tools that are out there, use them to create your own material and just familiarize in whatever capacity they can, so basically catch up to all the trends before it's too late. I think that will help them stand out in interviews and in jobs.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

Biggest challenge would be that because AI is advancing so fast, it's important to keep up with the trends so that you stay relevant in the industry. This is a time where a lot of AI startups are booming, so you really need to differentiate yourself and offer something that other competitors cannot compare. Being very thorough in terms of your goal, your business goal, your product vision and how you differentiate yourself from competitors, that's key. Opportunity is how you can today scale efficiently and minimize cost because of all the innovation that the tech and AI space has brought. You can work from a very small team, and you can create big impact and accelerate your revenue without accelerating your cost at the same pace. The efficiency is the opportunity, as long as you're using it smartly, by combining the human intelligence with the AI efficiency.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

In my personal life, self-discipline is something that I follow, because I feel like if I keep myself in check, everything else in my life they'll kind of follow. In my professional life, my value is to respect, be open-minded and continue to learn about what other people are doing, even if they're not in your team, and always be curious, because curiosity can open a lot of doors for you.
