Marianne Scarff
Marianne Scarff is a dynamic finance leader and the Chief Financial Officer/Controller at D&N Bending in Rochester, Michigan. Originally from France, she developed a passion for accounting early in life, influenced by hands-on experience helping in her father’s business. She built a strong foundation in public accounting, spending four years with EY while simultaneously completing her first bachelor’s degree in accounting. This early immersion in both academic and professional environments shaped her analytical mindset and deep appreciation for the logic and structure of finance.
Seeking a more operational and hands-on career path, Marianne transitioned into the manufacturing sector after moving to the United States. She joined D&N Bending as a bookkeeper and, through determination and continuous learning, steadily advanced to controller and ultimately CFO within seven years. Along the way, she earned a second bachelor’s degree in accounting from Walsh College. In her current role, she serves not only as a financial executive but also as a board member, leading HR initiatives, managing ERP systems, and collaborating closely with production teams—bridging the gap between financial data and shop-floor operations.
Marianne is known for her strong work ethic, resilience, and commitment to continuous improvement. She thrives in the fast-paced world of manufacturing finance, particularly in supporting the production of components for electric vehicles. Passionate about learning, she continually expands her expertise in accounting and finance, even outside of work. Her leadership philosophy centers on humility, teamwork, and the belief that every role within an organization holds equal value, making her a respected and impactful leader in her field.

What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to perseverance, adaptability, and a willingness to embrace challenges. I started as a very introverted and shy individual, but through determination and continuous growth, I became a confident leader capable of managing teams and speaking in front of large audiences. Guided by a solution-oriented mindset, I approach challenges with optimism and a belief that anything can be worked through. Over time, I also overcame my fear of judgment by accepting that mistakes are part of growth, which allowed me to build confidence and develop into an effective communicator and leader.
What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I’ve received is to never shy away from a challenge and to trust that there is always a solution—you just have to find it. I approach every opportunity with a willingness to learn and a mindset of “we’ll make it work,” which has helped me stand out and grow. I stay optimistic, focus on my goals, and visualize success rather than dwelling on obstacles. Most importantly, I’ve learned to remain patient and not get discouraged, understanding that persistence and a positive outlook are key to overcoming any challenge.
What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
My advice to young women entering the industry is to stay resilient and never be discouraged by challenges, as setbacks are a natural part of growth. Be eager to learn, take responsibility for mistakes, and view constructive criticism as an opportunity to improve. Success comes from having strong self-drive and a commitment to continuous development—there is always room to grow, whether in technical or leadership skills. Give your best effort at work, remain dedicated, and be willing to go the extra mile when needed, while still maintaining a healthy balance with your personal life.
What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
One of the biggest challenges in my field is that women still often have to work harder to earn the same level of respect, especially in executive roles. Early in my career, I faced additional barriers due to my age, being a woman, and being a non-native speaker, which meant I had to consistently prove my knowledge and credibility. Even today, it’s not uncommon to be the only woman—and the youngest—in the room at the board level. However, this also presents an opportunity to demonstrate expertise, build confidence, and gradually shift perceptions. While progress is being made, there is still room for growth, and I remain hopeful that continued representation and performance will help drive lasting change in the industry.
What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The values most important to me in both my work and personal life are respect, humility, and authenticity. I strongly believe that no one is above anyone else—just like every part of a car is essential, every member of a team plays a vital role. As a leader, I see myself as a guide who is always willing to support others when they need help. I also value being genuine and fostering open communication, encouraging honest conversations to build strong relationships. Above all, I strive to treat others the way I would like to be treated, with kindness and respect, while remaining humble and committed to giving back and making a meaningful impact.
