Her Story
About Marie
I am an associate on the decision modeling and analytics team at EY Parthenon in Chicago. I've been in finance for about four years following a typical path and feel fortunate in my journey. My days consist of client meetings and engagements that last anywhere from four weeks to six months, along with facilitating internal meetings and producing deliverables in Excel, PowerPoint, or coding. One project I am most proud of involved working with the state to deploy infrastructure funds for middle-mile management, helping connect people without internet access to larger networks, which had real-world impact.
Her Interview
Ten minutes with Marie
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to having really good mentors from my education, internships, and early career who took me under their wing. Additionally, I try everything and put my name in the hat for opportunities even when I don't feel fully qualified, which has opened many doors for me.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best advice was to pursue what I was interested in rather than just what I was best at. Following my interests led me to work hard, persevere, and produce better work because I enjoy what I do and don't get bored.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Don't let the fact that there are not a lot of women in the field be a deterrent. You are equally capable as anyone else as long as you work hard and put the work in. Force a path for yourself and don't be deterred if you don't see a picture of yourself where you want to be.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
AI is massively disrupting the consulting business model. It is challenging to be at the precipice of that uncertainty, but it also presents opportunities for clients and consultants to make decisions that put them ahead of competitors. AI will define the field for the next 5, 10, 20 years.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Work ethic is my number one value because talent can only take you so far. Along with that, perseverance and grit are important. I work in a male-dominated field as the only female on staff in Chicago, and my work ethic has helped me push through challenges that aren't typical.
