Her Story
About Marie
I began my career in financial services in New York during my 20s, but my life changed when I discovered Chinese medicine. I was suffering from monthly migraines with my menstrual cycle, and acupuncture and herbs were the only treatments that actually fixed it. I fell in love with the medicine and decided to pursue it professionally. I moved to California to study at Emperor's College of Traditional Oriental Medicine in Santa Monica, where I earned my Master's in Oriental Medicine, and I also studied in China. For the past 18 years, I've been practicing as an acupuncturist with my own practice. Most of my patients come through word of mouth referrals, and I see mostly women, though I also treat men and children. My focus is on educating women about how to take care of themselves naturally so they don't need to rely on Western interventions. I believe the body knows how to heal itself, and with simple self-care, people can have a better quality of life and lead the lives they're meant to live. Beyond one-on-one patient care, I teach Qigong classes, which allows me to reach more people with the same message. I teach them how Chinese medicine views health and the body, and how they can decode the messages their bodies are sending them and what they need to do when they get those messages.

01What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
I believe in bridging Western medicine and Eastern medicine to get the best results. I think you should use the best of both. In my work, I'm focused on educating people, especially women, on how to take care of themselves naturally and decode the messages their bodies are sending them. I believe the body knows how to heal itself, and with simple self-care, people can have a better quality of life and lead the lives they're meant to live. Personally, I value spending time in nature, whether that's going for slow walks or having meals outside. I also practice Qigong for myself, which is meditative and helps me stay centered. I love reading and traveling, and I'm involved in my children's school activities because family is important to me.
