With over a decade of experience in electrical engineering, she brings deep technical expertise in insulation systems, electrical apparatus configuration, and advanced simulation techniques. Her work focuses on creating innovative, reliable solutions that enhance grid resilience and support the evolving needs of the energy industry.
From Brazil to the US including Georgia, Pennsylvania and currently in Clearwater, Florida, Marilia works on key research and development projects for GE Vernova’s medium voltage Instrument Transformer and Power Capacitors Product Line. Her collaborative approach integrates insights from cross-functional teams, enabling her to deliver projects that balance innovation, quality, and cost efficiency.
Marilia holds a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from the Federal University of Itajubá in Brazil. Throughout her career, she has been recognized for her technical expertise, problem-solving skills, and dedication to advancing engineering solutions that drive sustainable energy outcomes. Outside of work, she enjoys cooking, spending quality time with family and friends, and engaging in outdoor activities like walking and going to the beach, which reflects the same focus and enthusiasm she brings to her professional endeavors.

What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to maintaining a strong technical focus when approaching problems while also valuing collaboration and input from others. I find that by concentrating on the fundamental technical aspects—understanding the root causes, analyzing the data, and working through the engineering principles—I can cut through complexity and find effective solutions. This combination of staying technically focused while actively listening and working collaboratively keeps me grounded and helps the entire team deliver consistent, reliable results.
What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
My father has been my guiding star professionally, he was my main influence to become an engineer in the first place. His wisdom shaped how I approach challenges. His two most powerful pieces of advice? Stay motivated, don`t lose the enthusiasm and trust your instincts. These simple words have carried me through countless difficult decisions and moments of doubt.
What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Trust yourself. Your technical knowledge is valid. Your perspective is valuable. Your voice matters. Stay focused on excellence. Let your work quality, technical depth, and problem-solving abilities define you. When you consistently deliver results, respect follows. Don't let anyone diminish you. There will be moments when people underestimate you or dismiss your ideas. Stand firm when you know you're right. Your conviction will build both your confidence and your credibility. Seek support, and be support. Find mentors, partners, and colleagues who champion your success. And when you can, be that person for another woman starting her journey. Balance is possible. Yes, I'm a mother, a wife, and a dedicated engineer. These roles don't compete—they complement each other. The organizational skills, empathy, and resilience required in motherhood make me better at my job, and the confidence I've built professionally makes me a better role model for my daughter.
What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
In my field, being in a male-dominated industry presents both challenges and opportunities. I have worked to earn respect and credibility through persistence, precision, and consistently delivering results, which has allowed me to demonstrate my technical expertise and leadership over time. This environment also provides the opportunity to inspire and pave the way for other women in engineering.
What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The values most important to me, both professionally and personally, are honesty and respect. Honesty forms the foundation of everything. Being truthful about capabilities, limitations, and progress builds trust and enables better decision-making. Whether I'm communicating with colleagues, stakeholders, or in my personal relationships, I believe transparent and honest communication prevents misunderstandings and creates stronger connections. Respect is equally essential. I strive to respect others' time, expertise, and perspectives, recognizing that everyone brings valuable experience and insight to the table. This means actively listening, acknowledging different viewpoints, and treating people with dignity regardless of their role or background
