Ten minutes with Marilyn

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to resilience, adaptability, and a commitment to continuous growth.

At 13 years old, I underwent a life-changing spinal fusion surgery involving multiple vertebrae, rods, hooks, and screws. That experience taught me something I still carry with me today: challenges rarely disappear, but you can always choose how you respond to them.

Throughout my life and career, I've learned to adapt, pivot, and keep moving forward when circumstances change. Whether I'm navigating personal obstacles, learning a new skill, or tackling a complex challenge at work, I focus on finding solutions instead of dwelling on setbacks.

Just as importantly, I've learned the value of self-reflection. I regularly evaluate what's working, what isn't, and where I can improve. That mindset has helped me grow not only as a sales professional, but also as a teammate, problem solver, and leader.

Success, to me, isn't about avoiding adversity—it's about using it as an opportunity to learn, evolve, and come back stronger. That perspective has shaped both my career and the way I approach every opportunity.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

Focus your energy on the things you can control, and don't let setbacks become excuses. There will always be obstacles, but there's almost always another path forward if you're willing to keep learning and adapting.

I've also learned that success isn't about stubbornly pursuing the same goal forever. It's about being willing to evolve as you gain new experiences and perspectives. My personal philosophy is: Learn. Change. Grow. In that order.

That cycle has shaped every stage of my career. The more I've invested in learning, embraced change, and continued to grow, the more opportunities have opened up. Relentlessness isn't just about working harder—it's about staying curious, remaining adaptable, and never losing sight of your purpose.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

My advice to young women entering this industry is to believe in your own potential before anyone else does.

There will always be people who question your abilities or tell you something isn't possible. Throughout my life, I've heard those doubts, and I've learned that the best response isn't to argue—it's to keep showing up, keep growing, and let your results speak for themselves.

Develop resilience, be coachable, and don't be afraid to take on challenges that stretch you. Advocate for yourself, ask questions, and never stop learning. Most importantly, don't let being the only woman in the room—or simply being a woman—make you question whether you belong. You do.

Confidence isn't about having all the answers. It's about trusting yourself to figure things out, adapt, and keep moving forward.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

One of our biggest challenges is cutting through the noise. Buyers are inundated with outreach every day, which means sales professionals have to be more intentional, more consultative, and more authentic than ever before. The future belongs to those who can combine technology with genuine relationship-building and a customer-first mindset.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The values that guide both my work and personal life are integrity, resilience, curiosity, and continuous growth.

I believe in showing up with honesty, following through on my commitments, and treating people with respect. Whether I'm working with customers, colleagues, friends, or family, I want people to know they can trust me to be authentic and dependable.

Resilience has also become one of my core values. Life has taught me that challenges are inevitable, but they also create opportunities to learn, adapt, and grow. Rather than fearing change, I've learned to embrace it and use it as a catalyst for improvement.

Finally, I believe that growth never stops. I'm always looking for ways to learn, improve, and become a better professional, leader, and person. I strive to leave every experience with more knowledge, greater perspective, and a stronger ability to help others succeed.
