Her Story

About Marina

I have been living in the United States for almost 10 years, but my career in behavioral health started in Russia where I earned my Master's in Psychology in 2013. I am currently a program director for social rehabilitation programs at Buckelew Programs in Sonoma County, where I focus on community mental health and building and developing programs. Previously I worked at Community Forward. My passion for this field comes from family experience with a family member needing support in behavioral health. I value transparency, respect, and creating a healthy environment. I attribute my success to my passion and being very detail-oriented.

Ten minutes with Marina

01What do you attribute your success to?

My passion and being very detail-oriented bring together to make me unstoppable in some achievements. I am always looking to grow and stay up to date because the area has constant challenges and changes.

02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Don't overwork. Take one day at a time. And your self-care is very important if you want to support other people.

03What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

A lot of stigma around behavioral health, especially in the Russian-speaking community. People don't know access to their resources. Educational and stigma is a big barrier for people to get access to the right treatment.

04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Transparency, creating a healthy environment, and respect.
