Her Story
About Marina
I started as an industrial and graphic designer working for editorial magazines in Brazil, then moved into fashion and surface design with continuing education in Finland working for brands like Farm Studio and Adidas. I transitioned to advertising working at agencies like JWT and McGarry Bowen in New York, then Ogilvy in Hong Kong and New Zealand. I've led global campaigns for major clients reaching millions, won international awards, and judged awards. For the past 9 years I've taught and mentored the next generation of creatives, placing many in top agencies. I'm proud of my journey as a Latina woman in a male-dominated industry, fighting for space and recognition.
Her Interview
Ten minutes with Marina
01What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Don't change yourself for the things you're gonna hear at first. Believe in what you are, your skills, your talent, and your personality. Who you are and the way you are and how you express yourself is extremely important. Be strong and sure of who we are. Trust that other people who have been in their shoes will be there to help them.
02What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
The strength needed to believe in yourself despite prejudgments based on age, gender, priorities, or being a minority in a male-dominated room. Not letting intimidation from others impact you and trusting that your point of view is valid.
