What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to pure determination. I knew at a very young age, probably around 18, that I didn't want to be just a customer service representative. I wanted to be where I am today, if not higher. So it was just pure determination and the pure desire to share my knowledge with people, just pushing through. I've always had this drive to not only advance myself but to help others grow and learn, which has been a constant motivator throughout my 32-year career.
What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best advice I've ever received is really just never give up, especially on the tough days. Being a female in our industry, which might not be as prevalent now as it was back in the day when I first started, I've had a lot of female managers and very close female friends who have always told me that you have to get in there and just prove yourself. Make sure that everybody sees you for not being a female, but being an equal. That advice about persistence and proving yourself based on your abilities rather than your gender has been invaluable throughout my career.
What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
My advice would be to ask a lot of questions. Don't be shy, just ask questions and absorb as much as you can absorb. When I train people, I always explain to them that if you don't ask a question and you don't take notes, those are the two biggest things that will make you fail. You have to be self-sufficient at a certain point, and you can't be constantly asking the same question multiple times. So always ask questions, I'll be more than happy to answer them, but after a certain point, I'm going to say, show me your notes. Taking notes shows you're engaged and paying attention, and it's essential for your growth and success in this industry.
What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Honesty and integrity are the most important values to me in both my work and personal life.
