About Marisa
Marisa Romeo, EdD, CMPC, is a Certified Mental Performance Consultant, educator, and coach dedicated to helping athletes, teams, and performers consistently perform at their best. Based in Asheville, North Carolina, she serves as the founder of Romeo Performance Consulting, a CMPC for Asheville City Soccer Club, and a full-time teaching faculty member at Asheville-Buncombe Technical Community College. Marisa’s work uniquely bridges applied practice, teaching, and research, allowing her to translate complex psychological concepts into practical, performance-driven strategies that support both excellence and well-being.
Marisa holds a B.A. in Psychology from Warren Wilson College, an M.S. in Applied Sport Science with an emphasis in Sport Science and Coach Education from East Tennessee State University, and a doctorate in Sport & Performance Psychology from the University of Western States. Her professional expertise spans mental performance coaching applied sport and exercise science, college-level teaching and mentorship, and research. Her doctoral scholarship focuses on psychological flexibility and flow states in ultra-endurance athletes, and she has presented on topics including faculty wellness, injury prevention in runners, and the psychological impact of supplementation.
Grounded in a cognitive-behavioral and appraisal-based philosophy, Marisa believes performance is shaped not by events themselves, but by how individuals interpret, regulate, and respond to them. As an accomplished ultra-endurance athlete, she brings lived experience into her practice, applying the same mental skills she teaches to navigate high-pressure environments, setbacks, and long-term growth. Passionate about sustainable success, Marisa is committed to helping individuals and teams pursue excellence while developing adaptable mindsets and identities that extend well beyond sport.
