Ten minutes with Marissa
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to my upbringing. My grandparents and mom lead by example and demonstrated integrity, hard work, and independence. I was fortunate enough to grow up in a military town surrounded by a lot of diversity and cultures. I've always been independent and had a hard work ethic. My family poured love and wisdom into me that I embody every day. I made them a promise to make them proud and break generational trauma, which I continue to do to this very day.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I've received was follow your passions, listen to your intuition, and believe in yourself.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
The advice I would give to young women entering the coaching industry is listen to your intuition and do not give up. Building a business is a process and it rarely unfolds the way we picture it in our minds.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
The biggest challenges in the coaching field right now are educating the difference between coaching and therapy. They are not interchangeable. Coaching is about forward movement and building aligned action toward your goals. Therapy explores your past and experiences to work through emotional wounds. Some of the opportunities for coaches in the field is moving out of the online space. Online is saturated and real-life experiences are the premium. People nowadays are craving human connection and community more than ever.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
My core values that are most important in my personal life include intuition, authenticity, and freedom. The most important values in my business are empathy, creativity, peace, and growth.
