About Mariza
I've been in Public Works for almost 6 years, and I say it all the time - this job definitely chose me. I was looking for a career change because what I originally went to school for, I very quickly found out I did not want to do. There was a job opening with a local county government, so I applied, ended up getting the job, and I fell in love with government work, in particular Public Works. There's so much that Public Works does - we are the backbone of a city or a county. When you go into any city or county, the first department you come into contact with is Public Works, whether that is your roads you're driving on, your sidewalks you're walking on, or the trees, the grass, you name it. Being a part of that placemaking and that welcoming environment really drove it home for me. What I love most about the work I do is definitely being a part of the process and being a part of these projects that are going to make a lasting impact on the community I have the privilege of serving. It's super cool being able to drive around a city and say, oh, I was a part of this, I helped make that happen, and here's the story behind how we got here. It just has so much meaning to me personally.
