Her Story

About Markeda

I started my career path just as regular staff working with people with intellectual disabilities, homeless needs, and people that were underprivileged financially. Just always having a heart for people is what drove me into the career that I am in now and what I do and how I give back to the community. Today, I handle the day-to-day functioning of individuals with intellectual disabilities. I have a ministry called Little Free Food Pantries, and in that ministry, we go around into less fortunate communities and plant little food-free planters, which allows free access, 24-hour access to food. We also have the Mobile Soup Kitchen, which gives out free hot meals to anyone that basically walks up to it. We don't ask any questions - if you walk up and come to the mobile truck, you'll be served, no questions asked. I spend most of my time trying to feed and clothe the less fortunate. That's what is fun for me. That's where I get satisfaction, gratification from, and a sense of purpose.

01What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I received was to always have empathy, to always put myself in someone else's shoes. That would help me be able to problem solve. It would help me be able to become the solution to the answer.
