Her Story

About Markesh

Markesha Grayson, B.S., is a dedicated kidney patient advocate and life insurance agent based in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Her passion for advocacy began more than 32 years ago when she made the life-changing decision to donate one of her kidneys to her father while she was a college student. That experience inspired a lifelong commitment to educating others about kidney health, organ donation, and health equity, particularly within Black and Brown communities. In addition to her advocacy work, she has served as a Life Insurance Agent with PHP Agency, Inc. for more than four years, helping individuals and families protect their financial futures.

Grayson earned her Bachelor of Science in Hospitality Administration from Morris Brown College and later completed the Patient Professors Academy Certificate through the University of Maryland School of Pharmacy. She is also Certified in Patient Professor Advocacy. Throughout her advocacy journey, she has organized community education initiatives, participated in kidney awareness events and panel discussions, developed a Kidney Closet Project to provide essential supplies for dialysis patients, and supported kidney walks and outreach efforts focused on prevention, education, and organ donation awareness. Her commitment to patient advocacy has been recognized with the Derek Forfang Patient Advocate Award and other honors celebrating her dedication to improving the lives of kidney patients.

Inspired by the example set by her parents, Grayson believes in living a life rooted in faith, generosity, and service to others. She credits her upbringing for teaching her the importance of giving back and leading by example. Guided by the values of compassion, respect, and treating others as she wishes to be treated, she encourages others to work together, uplift one another, and make a lasting difference in their communities. Through both her advocacy and professional work, she remains committed to leaving the world better than she found it.
