About Marla
My journey began with a Bachelor's in Criminal Justice from University of Arkansas Pine Bluffs. I started as a residential treatment counselor at a youth home, then investigated child abuse cases through the SCAN program and worked in adult probation and parole. I transitioned into education by teaching earth science, then pursued a master's in instructional design and technology at Walden University. Now as CTE Director I help students earn valuable trade certifications before graduating high school, focusing on prevention and intervention to change lives.

01What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Keep an open mind, be patient, and have a listening ear. A lot of times we are taught things by the book, but the book doesn't understand the lifestyle and environment that a lot of these people come from. Start with them small, like getting a CNA certification on the way to becoming an RN.
