Her Interview
Ten minutes with Marla
01What do you attribute your success to?
I think just having good work ethic from a young age, and kind of having to figure myself out in a way that was more scrappy. I didn't have a lot of choice growing up, I kind of had to go to work early. Knowing that having a good set of work ethic is important no matter what you're doing. Being a genuine positive force in anything that you involve yourself in is fundamental. Be a good person, be a good team player, and then you will have success.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
Do something well that not a lot of other people can do. Have a niche and really understand it. In the world of writing, I've lent myself to the industrial and retail side so I have a lot of knowledge about the materials. Not just about my writing, it's about understanding the product and best representing it. Pick a lane and try to get really good at it.
03What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
Figuring out ways to reach audiences in innovative ways. We're limited to so many platforms and social media channels and you don't necessarily always know where your demographic is looking. AI is changing things for the better by making things more efficient, acting as a research assistant rather than a replacement. It doesn't give us permission to become lazier, it means we should be thinking more.
04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
I just like to work with good people. Good people are the base of everything, and a product that's integrated with integrity and honesty, so whatever I'm writing for or writing about, I believe in. Integrity and just being around other like-minded, hardworking people with similar values.
