Marlen Garcia is a Technical Recruiter for RINA North America Energy Projects, where she specializes in identifying and placing qualified inspectors and field professionals within the oil and gas sector. Based in Hockley, Texas, she works within RINA’s North America division, supporting clients by sourcing certified talent for energy projects and field assignments. In her role, she focuses on connecting skilled professionals with opportunities that support large-scale industrial and energy operations.

Before entering the recruiting field, Marlen worked as an insurance broker, where she gained extensive experience working with construction professionals and contractors. This background helped her transition naturally into technical recruiting, as she was already familiar with the skills, certifications, and work environments common in field-based industries. Since joining RINA, she has continued to build her expertise in talent acquisition, particularly within oil and gas and energy infrastructure projects.

Marlen’s professional approach is grounded in strong communication and customer service skills, which she considers essential to success in recruiting. She finds fulfillment in helping candidates secure meaningful employment and guiding them through the hiring process from application to onboarding. For her, recruiting is not only a technical role but also a way to positively impact people’s careers and livelihoods by connecting them with life-changing job opportunities.

Q

What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to the positive feedback I receive and the opportunity to genuinely help people improve their lives. The responses and thank-you messages from those I’ve supported are deeply motivating and give me the energy to keep going. It is especially rewarding to know I’ve played a role in helping someone secure a new job or achieve a position they feel excited about. Their gratitude reinforces the value of my work and inspires me to continue making a meaningful impact.

Q

What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I would advise young women entering this industry to prioritize developing strong communication and customer service skills, as they are essential to success in recruiting. Being able to clearly and effectively communicate helps build trust with both candidates and clients, while strong customer service skills ensure a positive and supportive experience for everyone involved. In my experience, especially as someone relatively new in the field, I’ve found that these skills truly set the foundation for growth and success in recruiting.

Q

What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

One of the biggest challenges in my field right now is that the oil and gas industry remains predominantly male, which can sometimes result in women feeling like the only woman in the room. This makes it especially important to actively build networks and seek out supportive professional communities with other women in the industry. At the same time, this challenge also presents an opportunity to foster greater inclusion, strengthen representation, and help create more supportive environments for women entering and advancing in the field.

Q

What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The values most important to me in both my work and personal life are helping others, clear communication, service, and gratitude. I find purpose in supporting people and contributing in ways that make a meaningful difference in their lives. Clear and open communication is essential to building trust and ensuring positive outcomes, while a strong sense of service guides how I approach my work each day. I also deeply value appreciation and gratitude, as they reinforce the impact of what I do and motivate me to continue showing up for others.
