About Marlen

Marlen Garcia is a Technical Recruiter for RINA North America Energy Projects, where she specializes in identifying and placing qualified inspectors and field professionals within the oil and gas sector. Based in Hockley, Texas, she supports clients across RINA’s North America division by sourcing certified talent for energy infrastructure and field-based operations.

Before transitioning into recruiting, Marlen worked as a commercial insurance broker, where she gained extensive experience working closely with construction professionals and contractors. This background provided her with a strong understanding of the skills, certifications, and environments required in field-based industries and supported a natural transition into technical recruiting.

Since joining RINA, she has developed expertise in talent acquisition within oil and gas and energy infrastructure projects. Her approach is grounded in strong communication, relationship-building, and customer service—skills she considers essential to success in recruiting.

Marlen finds fulfillment in helping candidates secure meaningful opportunities and guiding them through the hiring process from initial engagement through onboarding. For her, recruiting is not only a technical function, but also an opportunity to positively impact people’s careers by connecting them with roles that can be truly life-changing.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Marlen

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to a strong work ethic, consistency, and the opportunity to help others achieve their career goals. I’ve always believed that showing up every day, putting in the effort, and treating people with respect creates opportunities over time. Success doesn’t happen overnight—it’s built through persistence and a commitment to continuous learning.

What motivates me most is the positive feedback I receive from the people I’ve had the privilege of helping. Knowing that I’ve played a role in someone securing a new job or finding a position they’re truly excited about is incredibly rewarding. The thank-you messages and words of appreciation I receive reinforce the value of my work and inspire me to keep making a meaningful impact in people’s lives.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I’ve ever received came from my mentor, Frank, who shared a simple but powerful quote with me: “Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime.”

That advice has shaped the way I approach my career. It taught me that lasting success comes from empowering others with the knowledge, resources, and confidence they need to succeed on their own. As a recruiter, I strive to do more than fill positions—I aim to guide people toward opportunities that support their long-term growth and success.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

My advice would be to believe in yourself and never stop learning. Don’t be afraid to ask questions, seek out mentors, and take on opportunities that challenge you. Growth often happens outside your comfort zone, and every experience is a chance to build your confidence and expand your skills.

Most importantly, stay true to your values. Your integrity, your work ethic, and the way you treat people will become your reputation, and that reputation will open doors throughout your career.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

One of the biggest opportunities in recruiting today is using technology to enhance the hiring process while keeping people at the center of every decision. Tools like AI can improve efficiency, but they can never replace the value of building relationships, understanding individual goals, and recognizing potential beyond what’s written on a résumé.

I believe the future of recruiting lies in finding the right balance, embracing innovation while preserving the human connection that builds trust and helps both candidates and organizations succeed.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The values that guide me most in both my work and personal life are integrity and respect. I believe in doing things the right way, even when no one is watching, and in treating people with honesty and fairness in every interaction. A core principle for me is treating others the way you would want to be treated.

At the center of everything I do is a desire to make a positive impact and leave people better than I found them.
