Her Story

About Marquetta

Marquetta Smith serves as Regional Administrator Manager at Little Leaves, an ABA therapy clinical center for children with autism. In this role for just over a year, she communicates with parents, supervises technicians, conducts audits, and manages payroll while coaching staff on better parent communication. Her career in education began in 2005 as a teacher at Capital City Programs alternative school, where she remained for eight years before joining Richmond Public Schools in 2015 to teach elementary school. She transitioned from classroom teaching to administrative work in ABA therapy to continue helping children and families in a different capacity. Smith earned a bachelor's degree in criminal justice from St. Paul's College, completed education courses at Virginia Union from 2007 to 2008, and obtained a master's degree in mental health and wellness with emphasis on grief, losses, and substance abuse from Grand Canyon University, followed by a graduate certificate in family dynamics from the same university in 2024. She is a certified teacher in her state. Smith attributes her success to hard work, a strong work ethic, setting goals, and serving as a role model for young people from her area. She values loyalty, honesty, communication, and kindness in both her professional and personal life, and advises taking all available training opportunities and never giving up on certification goals.

01What do you attribute your success to?

The best career advice I received is to take every available training and professional development opportunity, even if not interested in the topic, because you never know what you'll learn.
