Her Story

About Marrah

HR, to me, is a beautiful blending of what I do for a living and what my heart goal is. I feel like I'm on Earth to instill hope, and I love watching others grow and develop and being there for them. I didn't always feel that way - I love the business side of it too. There were a few things that happened in my career and my life, and I had this awesome opportunity to sort of step back and say again, where do I want to be when I grow up? I've asked that question a couple times in my life. What I really want to do is just help others, and be a joy, and be a support. In HR, you get to do that. I'm at a place in my career where I really thrive in supporting and sponsoring C-suite leaders. I know how to create strategy, I know how to evolve cultures, and I know how to institute lasting change, but by being in HR, I get to do that through the people lens. I'm a servant leader. I just want to add value. Success, to me, is impacting a life, not just adding to the bottom line. I grew up with a single parent who was a small business owner, and I got to see firsthand what some of that work was. I started my career at Target, where I was surrounded by amazing leaders that inspired me and helped me grow and wanted to see me succeed. I've led really large global teams throughout my career - I sat in finance for 6 years, I was in supply chain for 5. I couldn't have predicted 25, 26 years ago where my career would have brought me. I couldn't have been able to map this out, but every step I've taken, I've just been a learner. I try to soak in as much as possible, I do the best I can, I'm super transparent.

01What do you attribute your success to?

100% God. I take zero credit in any of this. I am a big believer, and I just want to be of service. I know I've gotten it right, and I continue to be imperfect, but I just want to go and be where I can be of service, and I try really hard to have that be my motto. I'm a servant leader. I just want to add value. Success, to me, is impacting a life, not just adding to the bottom line. I could not have predicted 25, 26 years ago where my career would have brought me. I started in finance, I went to supply chain for a little bit. I was at Target, I went to Wayfair. I couldn't have been able to map this out, but every step I've taken, I've just been a learner. I try to soak in as much as possible, I do the best I can, I'm super transparent, but at the core, it's this has been God's journey, I'm just trying to follow where I can.

02What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

I have learned throughout my career to prioritize my health and my balance. I've also learned that work-life balance doesn't mean you work less. I know what my non-negotiables are. I might have to work late one night, but I'm not gonna miss a track meet for my son. I might travel a lot, but I'm gonna take a day off when I can feel myself getting a little burnt out. I'm proactively putting days on my calendar, and I'm in an organization where I assessed prior to joining that they support that. You have to figure it out - you kind of have to figure out what your non-negotiables are, and that's going to be different for everyone. My heart's mission is I love developing, I love walking alongside others. I feel like I'm on Earth to instill hope, and I love watching others grow and develop and being there for them. I just want to be of service. I'm a servant leader. I just want to add value. Success, to me, is impacting a life, not just adding to the bottom line.
