Ten minutes with Marsha
01What do you attribute your success to?
I probably would say my strong work ethic, which also comes into play with my personal life. The follow-through and the commitment of helping others is what definitely has made me successful. I know when I have a boss or someone at my church reach out to me when my kids were little, and it's like oh Marcia we need help at Sunday school would you? Absolutely. I'm that person that wants to help out. Being the PTO treasurer at this kid's school for 5 years.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
My advice would be follow through with your commitment to what you say. You have your goals in mind. Follow through with those. Always know that your word is valued. When people speak of you, you want them to know that when she says she's going to do something, do it. So follow through with your words and your actions. Your actions need to follow.
03What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
The biggest challenges is things are not always fair and not always going to be in your favor but to know that still that continued commitment in retaining staff is not all about money. It's not all about the paycheck, the environment, the people you work with. You need to love what you do because you're going to be doing it for a very long time. Pick a field that your heart is in. We've had some turnover in our firm and 9 times out of 10 it's been over the paycheck. Getting across to employees all these other benefits in this culture and this work-life balance even though it might not have monetary value it has a big impact on your life and your whole well-being.
