Her Story
About Marsha
I've been working in telecommunications customer service for about 25 years now, all with the same major telecommunications company that I started with after having my child. In my role, I constantly deal with customers and agents for large companies and enterprise customers, handling their telephone service, setting up service, and disputing charges. What I'm most proud of is that I achieved all of this while being a single mom, going through and getting my bachelor's degree and then my master's degree in project management, all while working full-time. Beyond my telecommunications career, I'm also a children's author with four published children's books called the Sammy Series, which I first published in 2021 and self-published myself. The books are available on my website, and I just recently released an urban fiction novel as well. When I'm not working, I'm usually writing or spending time with my family.

Ten minutes with Marsha
01What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice that I ever received was to stay focused and always never think that you're not able to achieve what you want to achieve. As long as you stay focused, you can do whatever you want to do.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Stay focused, work hard, and always make sure your presence is in the room, and do the best job that you can.
03What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
I think just getting your voice out there is a big challenge. You have to try and make sure that you do whatever you can to get yourself out there, make sure that you're being noticed, and absolutely putting your best foot forward. That would be not only my advice, but I think it's also part of a challenge, because sometimes, being a woman, we're put on the back burner, or we're not considered as important as sometimes a man, or somebody with a little bit more experience, so you want to make sure that you're fighting for your position and putting yourself out there.
04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Honesty and loyalty are the most important values to me in my work and personal life.
